GEA Group's carbon footprint

GEA Group reported Total CO2e Emissions - Location-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 31 December 2020 at 65 Kt (-7.4 /-10.3% y-o-y). Also positively, carbon intensity declined to 12 t (-1.2 /-9.2% y-o-y).

GEA Group's Scope 3 emissions skyrocketed to 27,843 Kt (+27,840/+772896% y-o-y). There has been no clear trend lately.

The company is committed to reducing Scope 1 + 2 by 60% by 2030 from a base year 2019, which translates into the estimated reduction of -3.6 Kt per annum over the period of FY2021 - FY2030. This science-based target is aligned with Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Also, the company commits to achieving net zero for all Scopes by 2040, which translates into the estimated reduction of -3.4 Kt per annum over the period of FY2021 - FY2040. This target, however, has not been recognised as science-based (and as aligned with Paris Agreement) by the SBTi.

Also, the company commits to reducing Scope 3 by 18% by 2030 from a base year 2019, which translates into the estimated reduction of -3,092 Kt per annum over the period of FY2022 - FY2030. This science-based target is aligned with Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
