Duke Energy's carbon footprint

Duke Energy reported Total CO2e Emissions - Location-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 31 December 2022 at 77,004 Kt (-1/ y-o-y). At the sime time, carbon intensity declined to 2,677 t (-451 /-14.4% y-o-y).

Duke Energy's Scope 3 emissions increased to 30,518 Kt (+5,283/+21% y-o-y). The growth rate declined vs. the previous periods (CAGR +26% since 4Q'19).

The company is committed to achieving net zero for all Scopes by 2050, which translates into the estimated reduction of -3,840 Kt per annum over the period of FY2023 - FY2050. This target, however, has not been recognised as science-based (and as aligned with Paris Agreement) by the SBTi.
