Waste Management's carbon footprint

Waste Management reported Total CO2e Emissions - Market-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 31 December 2021 at 17,158 Kt (+839/+5.1% y-o-y). At the sime time, carbon intensity plunged to 957 t (-116 /-10.8% y-o-y).

Waste Management's Scope 3 emissions decreased to 3,358 Kt (-145 /-4.1% y-o-y). There has been no consistent trend in recent years.

The company is committed to reducing Scope 1 + 2 by 42% by 2032 from a base year 2021, which translates into the estimated reduction of -655 Kt per annum over the period of FY2022 - FY2032. This target, however, has not been recognised as science-based (and as aligned with Paris Agreement) by the SBTi.
