Sanofi's carbon footprint

Sanofi reported Total CO2e Emissions - Market-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 30 September 2021 at 660 Kt (-93 /-12.4% y-o-y).

Sanofi's Scope 3 emissions declined to 4,739 Kt (-494 /-9.4% y-o-y). This is broadly in line with the declining trend (CAGR -8.8%) since 3Q'17.

The company is committed to achieving net zero for Scope 1 + 2 by 2030, which translates into the estimated reduction of -73 Kt per annum over the period of FY2022 - FY2030. This science-based target is aligned with Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Also, the company commits to achieving net zero for all Scopes by 2050, which translates into the estimated reduction of -186 Kt per annum over the period of FY2022 - FY2050. This target, however, has not been recognised as science-based (and as aligned with Paris Agreement) by the SBTi.

Also, the company commits to reducing Scope 3 by 14% by 2030 from a base year 2019, which it appears to have already achieved as of 2021. This science-based target is aligned with Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
