Primary Climate Goal

Safran aims to reduce Scope 1 + 2 by 30% by 2025 from a base year 2018

This target has not been verified as science based according to SBTi

Safran's carbon footprint

Safran reported Total CO2e Emissions - Market-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 31 December 2021 at 398 Kt (-1.1 /-0.3% y-o-y). At the same time, carbon intensity increased to 22 t (+1.6/+7.8% y-o-y).

Safran's Scope 3 emissions was down at 62,242 Kt (-9,710 /-13.5% y-o-y).

The company has not set a company-wide target for an absolute reduction in GHG emissions yet.

Safran also has a science-based goal that, however, does not appear to explicitly target a company-wide reduction in emissions in absolute terms. Safran commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 50.4% by 2030 from a 2018 base year.* Safran also commits to reduce scope 3 GHG emissions from the use of sold products 42.5% per available seat kilometer by 2035 from a 2018 base year.* ** Safran further commits to reduce indirect use-phase emissions 42.5% per available seat kilometer within the same timeframe.* ** * The target boundary includes biogenic emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks. ** Non-CO₂ effects which may also contribute to aviation induced warming are not included in this target. Safran commits to report publicly on its collaboration with stakeholders to improve understanding of opportunities to mitigate the non-CO2e impacts of aviation annually over its target timeframe
