National Grid plc reported Total CO2e Emissions - Market-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 31 March 2021 at 6,991 Kt (+464/+7.1% y-o-y). Carbon intensity also grew to 381 t (+37/+11% y-o-y).
National Grid plc's Scope 3 emissions tumbled to 28,948 Kt (
The company is committed to reducing Scope 3 by 37.5% by 2034 from a base year 2019, which translates into the estimated reduction of -626 Kt per annum over the period of FY2022 - FY2034. This target, however, has not been recognised as science-based (and as aligned with Paris Agreement) by the SBTi.
National Grid plc also has a science-based goal that, however, does not appear to explicitly target a company-wide reduction in emissions in absolute terms. Multinational energy utility National Grid PLC commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 60% by 2030 from a 2018 base-year. National Grid PLC commits to reduce scope 1 GHG emissions from power generation 90% per MWh by 2030, and 92% per MWh by 2033 from a 2018 base year. National Grid PLC commits to reduce all other absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 50% over the same timeframe. National Grid PLC commits to reduce scope 1 and scope 3 category 3 emissions from all generated and sold electricity 86% per MWh by 2033 from a 2018 base year. National Grid PLC commits to reduce all absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 37.5% by 2033 from a 2018 base year. National Grid commits to reduce absolute emissions from gas distributed by third-parties 37.5% within the same timeframe.
