GHG emissions and Carbon intensity
Evonik Industries reported Total CO2e Emissions - Market-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 31 December 2021 at 6,455 Kt (-1,740 /-21.2% y-o-y). Also positively, carbon intensity tumbled to 364 t (-210 /-36.6% y-o-y).
Evonik Industries's Scope 3 emissions was up at 28,400 Kt (
The company is committed to reducing Scope 1 + 2 by 50% by 2025 from a base year 2008, which translates into the estimated reduction of -71 Kt per annum over the period of FY2022 - FY2025. This target, however, has not been recognised as science-based (and as aligned with Paris Agreement) by the SBTi.
Evonik Industries also has a science-based goal that, however, does not appear to explicitly target a company-wide reduction in emissions in absolute terms. Specialty chemicals company Evonik Industries AG commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 25% by 2030 from a 2021 base year. Evonik Industries AG commits to reduce scope 1 GHG emissions from electricity generation 44% per MWh by 2030 from a 2021 base year. Evonik Industries AG commits to reduce all other absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 23.5% by 2030 from a 2021 base year. Evonik Industries AG commits to reduce scope 1 and 3 GHG emissions from the generation of all sold electricity 44% per MWh by 2030 from a 2021 base year.* Evonik Industries AG commits to reduce all other absolute upstream scope 3 GHG emissions as well as emissions from downstream transportation and distribution 11.07 % by 2030 from a 2021 base year. Evonik Industries AG commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from the use of sold products covering fossil fuels sold and distributed 22.5% by 2030 from a 2021 base year. *The target boundary includes land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.
