Drax Group's carbon footprint

Drax Group reported Total CO2e Emissions - Location-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 31 December 2021 at 1,255 Kt (-1,825 /-59.3% y-o-y).

Drax Group's Scope 3 emissions declined marginally to 3,121 Kt (-14 /-0.4% y-o-y).

The company is committed to achieving net zero for Scope 1 + 2 by 2030, which translates into the estimated reduction of -139 Kt per annum over the period of FY2022 - FY2030. This target, however, has not been recognised as science-based (and as aligned with Paris Agreement) by the SBTi.

Drax Group also has a science-based goal that, however, does not appear to explicitly target a company-wide reduction in emissions in absolute terms. Drax Group plc. commits to reduce scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions from electricity generation 75.7% per MWh by 2030 from a 2020 base year.* Drax Group plc. also commits to reduce scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions from all sold electricity by 75.7% per MWh over the same target timeframe.* Drax Group plc. commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions from all other sources 42% by 2030 from a 2020 base year, and commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from all other sources 42% by 2030 from a 2020 base year. *The target boundary includes biogenic emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.
