GHG emissions and Carbon intensity

Caterpillar reported Total CO2e Emissions - Market-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 31 December 2022 at 1,490 Kt (-20 /-1.3% y-o-y). Also positively, carbon intensity was down at 25 t (-4.5 /-15.2% y-o-y).

Caterpillar's Scope 3 emissions was up at 613,000 Kt (+24,000/+4.1% y-o-y). There has been no clear trend lately.

The company is committed to reducing Scope 1 + 2 by 30% by 2030 from a base year 2018, which it appears to have already achieved as of 2022. This target, however, has not been recognised as science-based (and as aligned with Paris Agreement) by the SBTi.
