Campbell Soup's carbon footprint

Campbell Soup reported Total CO2e Emissions - Location-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 30 June 2021 at 688 Kt (-34 /-4.7% y-o-y). Also positively, carbon intensity was down at 81 t (-1.9 /-2.3% y-o-y).

Campbell Soup's Scope 3 emissions increased to 6,256 Kt (+2,145/+52% y-o-y). The parameter has been fairly volatile.

The company is committed to reducing Scope 1 + 2 by 25% by 2025 from a base year 2017, which translates into the estimated reduction of -43 Kt per annum over the period of FY2022 - FY2025. This target, however, has not been recognised as science-based (and as aligned with Paris Agreement) by the SBTi.

Campbell Soup also has a science-based goal that, however, does not appear to explicitly target a company-wide reduction in emissions in absolute terms. Campbell Soup Company commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 42% by FY2030 from a FY2020 base year. Campbell Soup Company also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services and upstream transportation and distribution 25% within the same timeframe.
