AvalonBay Communities reported Total CO2e Emissions - Location-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 31 December 2020 at 69 Kt (-12 /-14.4% y-o-y).

AvalonBay Communities's Scope 3 emissions plunged to 5.3 Kt (-0.6 /-10.2% y-o-y). This is a higher rate of decline than over the period since 4Q'17 (-4.2% CAGR).

The company has not set a company-wide target for an absolute reduction in GHG emissions yet.

AvalonBay Communities also has a science-based goal that, however, does not appear to explicitly target a company-wide reduction in emissions in absolute terms. Real estate investment trust AvalonBay commits to reduce scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 53% per square foot by 2030 from a 2017 base year. AvalonBay also commits to reduce scope 3 emissions 47% per square foot within the same timeframe.
