GHG emissions and Carbon intensity

Anglo American reported Total CO2e Emissions - Location-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 31 December 2022 at 13,300 Kt (-1,460 /-9.9% y-o-y). At the same time, carbon intensity was up at 379 t (+24/+6.6% y-o-y).

Anglo American's Scope 3 emissions decreased to 98,500 Kt (-16,300 /-14.2% y-o-y). This is broadly in line with the declining trend (CAGR -15.5%) since 4Q'17.

The company is committed to reducing Scope 1 + 2 by 30% by 2030 from a base year 2016, which it appears to have already achieved as of 2022. This target, however, has not been recognised as science-based (and as aligned with Paris Agreement) by the SBTi.
